Prowrap partners with The Burnt Chef Project to help fund mental health support for hospitality workers

Prowrap has announced it is partnering with The Burnt Chef Project in a new initiative aimed at supporting the wellbeing of hospitality industry workers around the world.

The new partnership will help to provide funding for training, college talks, and a global employee assistance programme (EAP) that provides mental health support to hospitality professionals who would otherwise struggle to access it.

Prowrap will make an initial donation in support of the project, while also sponsoring one of The Burnt Brunch 2024 networking events. The event will discuss how adopting an eco-friendly mindset in the kitchen can transform menus and mental wellbeing, and will be held at the exciting Roe restaurant in the heart of Canary Wharf, London, hosted by its visionary owner Will Murray.

“We want to have an impact on the industry that goes beyond the benefits of our popular products.” explained Bryony Barlow, Commercial Director at Prowrap. “We’re already proud members of the Business in the Community initiative and we want to go even further to help provide hospitality workers with the support they need to have happy, fulfilling lives and careers.

“This is a challenging time for a high-pressure industry. More than four out of five hospitality professionals report having experienced at least one mental health issue during their career. There has never been a more important time to further the conversation about mental health and ensure every hospitality worker can access support if they need it.”

In addition to its training programmes, The Burnt Chef Project also provides free resources for employers and employees, and a free text-based support service for anyone in the hospitality sector who is experiencing mental health challenges as a result of their work. The Burnt Brunch events give chefs the chance to connect with industry leaders and like-minded peers, while also accessing important insights, support, and advice.

The partnership follows a Burnt Chef Project survey which found that 84% of respondents had experienced mental health issues, and 46% would not feel comfortable discussing those issues with their colleagues.

“Our motto is ‘prepare, preserve, protect’,” added Bryony. “If we apply those principles to ingredients, then it’s only right that we apply them to people as well.”
