Every professional kitchen team has seen it happen. Mid-service rush, someone’s changing a roll on the dispenser. Suddenly there’s a cut finger, a trip to first aid, fresh gloves, and a plaster in the bin. Best case scenario, you’ve lost five minutes. Worst case, you’re down a team member for the shift and filling in an accident report.

It’s the kind of incident that often gets written off as ‘just one of those things.’ Except it isn’t. Not when the same dispenser causes the same injuries week after week, kitchen after kitchen.

When we set out to design the Speedwrap Pro, we started by asking a deceptively simple question: why do the basics still cause so many problems? You shouldn’t need a degree in engineering to change a roll of cling film, and you definitely shouldn’t be risking injury every time you do it.

The little details that make the biggest difference

While commercial kitchens are always evolving with new technologies, traditional foil and film dispensers haven’t changed much in decades.

Sharp blades that sit exposed.

Unnecessary plastic adapters.

Ridged surfaces that trap bacteria.

Rolls that slip and slide when you’re trying to load them.

Each one of these ‘minor inconveniences’ costs time, creates safety risks, or makes cleaning harder than it needs to be. So, we redesigned the whole thing from the ground up.

Speedwrap Pro – designed for safety, sustainability and kitchen efficiency

The smooth lid design of the Speedwrap Pro looks great, but it isn’t just about aesthetics: those ridges and grooves on older dispensers are often bacteria traps. Our smooth surface, combined with BioCote antimicrobial technology, kills 99% of bacteria and fungi within 2 hours – including MRSA and E.coli. It wipes clean in seconds, making end-of-shift cleaning that bit faster.

The Speedwrap Pro’s patented safety blade is fully concealed and only unsheathes when you press the lid closed to make a cut. That eliminates the risk of cuts, even if working one-handed during a rush, juggling multiple orders. For operations teams tracking lost-time injuries (LTIs), that’s a significant risk removed entirely.

Then there’s the anti-rollback mechanism – a small detail with a huge impact. When loading a new roll, it stays exactly where you put it. No fumbling, no dropped rolls, and no wasted film. It’s a smooth, straightforward operation that works first time, every time.

Rethinking the refill, not just the dispenser

We could have stopped at making a better dispenser. We didn’t. The Prowrap team looked at the whole system and realised the refill rolls themselves needed rethinking too.

For years, the industry standard has been plastic adapter inserts in every roll – little plastic cores that help the roll sit securely in the dispenser. They’re awkward to use, and each one adds unnecessary plastic to the roll. Multiply that across thousands of kitchens changing rolls daily, and those grams easily become tonnes of avoidable plastic waste.

We replaced them with a notched cardboard core. It’s just as strong, works just as well through the supply chain, and cuts out plastic entirely – all our refill rolls are plastic-free and fully recyclable at end of use. This is an example of how a small change in design can make a meaningful difference to a company’s environmental impact – especially when our customers are tracking Scope 3 emissions and looking for practical ways to reduce them.

Why sweat the small stuff?

Because in a professional kitchen, the small stuff isn’t small at all.

A dispenser that saves thirty seconds per use doesn’t sound like much on the surface, until you multiply it by dozens of uses per shift, across multiple shifts, over weeks and months. A safety feature that prevents the occasional cut becomes hundreds of fewer LTIs. It’s the difference between a functional kitchen and one that maximises its potential.

And when you’re dealing with staff development and onboarding, having equipment that’s genuinely simple to use means less training time, fewer mistakes, and new team members who can work safely from day one.

The Speedwrap Pro isn’t one single revolutionary technology. It’s something better: thoughtful design applied to an everyday tool that actually makes your working day easier, safer, and cleaner. No compromises or complicated features you’ll never use – just a dispenser that works the way it should have all along.
