Cutting the cost of kitchen waste from prep to plate
How big is your kitchen’s carbon footprint?
#ZeroWasteWeek is the perfect time to reflect on the amount of waste produced in your business.
No one sets out to deliberately create waste, but the fact remains that every element of the foodservice supply chain – from your ingredients to your equipment to the energy your kitchen uses – has an impact on the planet. The leftovers you scrape into the bin at the end of a busy shift are just the tip of the iceberg. This has an environmental cost, but it also carries an economic cost – one that’s unwanted at the best of times, but especially now, when business costs are already high and margins are tight.
The good news is that this provides lots of avenues for businesses to pursue when looking to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions – many of which you may not even realise exist. This means it’s possible to make many small, incremental improvements that add up to make a big difference when scaled throughout the value chain.
At Prowrap, we’re committed to developing solutions that help you find these hidden costs and marginal gains. Here are just a few ways our portfolio can help you do more and waste less.
Speedwrap Pro – made in the UK
Unlike other dispensers on the market, our Speedwrap Pro dispensers are proudly made in the UK. That means they aren’t shipped across from China, dramatically reducing their environmental footprint and dramatically reducing your Scope 3 emissions.
Plastic-free refill rolls
All of our refill rolls for the Speedwrap Pro dispenser are made with innovative notched cardboard cores. This means that they fit into the dispenser without the need for plastic adapter inserts. In one of the clearest examples of how many small gains can quickly add up to make a big difference, over the course of a year, this simple change can have a huge impact on the amount of plastic waste your business produces.

Infinity Foil rolls can be recycled again and again
Our Infinity roll refills are proudly made from recycled content. And, after use, the foil can be recycled over and over again – it’s the perfect example of a product made for the circular economy.
Baking Parchment that returns to the earth
Our baking parchment is 100% biodegradable and compostable, making it the ideal cradle-to-cradle solution for kitchens looking to reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill.
Groundbreaking recycle-ready Ecocling™ film
Soft plastics recycling is one of the biggest issues facing the sector right now. Using plastic cling film is vital in the fight against food waste, but most cling films are not currently recyclable anywhere in the UK.
Not so with our Ecocling™ film. As it’s made without PVC, it can be recycled in dedicated flexible plastic recycling schemes, minimising the amount of plastic waste sent to landfill.
Pioneering dispenser recycling
When a dispenser comes to the end of its useful life, often there is just a single point of failure somewhere in the mechanism. The rest of the dispenser might still work fine, yet it would end up in landfill all the same. As a business that aspires to achieve zero waste, that didn’t sit right with us, so we set up a scheme to change it – and changed the industry in the process.
We worked with our customers and supply chain partners to set up the industry’s first dispenser recycling scheme. This saw us collect old, broken, or unwanted dispensers of any brand and replace them with a brand new, ultra-efficient Speedwrap Pro. The parts and materials from the old dispensers are then used in a variety of ways across our own supply chain, closing the loop on dispenser waste for good.
Whether you’re looking to overhaul your approach to kitchen waste or you want to tweak and streamline your supply chain, Prowrap is here to help.
